Steve Arndt
A lifelong resident of the Northwest, Steve Arndt grew up in rural Independence, Oregon during the state's centennial, a setting that kindled his curiosity about the region's history. His uncle, William Gilbaugh, further ignited this passion by taking Steve along on tours of some of Oregon's numerous back roads and byways.
After graduating from Central High School in Independence and then earning a degree in elementary education from Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University), Steve pursued additional course work in school administration at Portland State University and later at the University of Oregon. An elementary school teacher for four years, a principal for seventeen, and a college professor for thirteen, Steve currently serves as chairman of Warner Pacific College's teacher education department.
Steve and his wife Diane - who have been married for twenty-eight years - and their children Amanda, Robert, and Steve have always enjoyed taking roads less traveled, spending many spring and summer vacations exploring off-the-beaten-path places. In addition, the Arndts are active members in their community and take leadership roles in the Woodburn United Methodist Church.
These are the first two in Steve's six-book series of Roads Less Traveled guidebooks planned for the state.
